Among the standout exhibits were the impressive Harrier EV concept and a glimpse of the remarkable 1.5-litre turbocharged gasoline direct injection (TGDi) engine, soon to be nestled under the hood of the iconic Harrier SUV. However, the key revelation was that the electric Harrier would take the lead in the race for release, leaving its petrol-powered counterpart trailing behind.
During the announcement of the facelifted Harrier and Safari’s pricing, Shailesh Chandra, the Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd, shared a crucial insight. He affirmed, “We have already showcased the 1.5-litre TGDi engine at the Auto Expo, and we intend to introduce it. It’s slightly down the road – approximately a year or more. But we’re committed to bringing the petrol engine to our lineup.”
Sources indicate that crafting the petrol engine has presented a unique set of challenges, but Tata Motors is resolute in its mission to conquer this domain. Chandra underlined the importance of this endeavor, stating, “Petrol volumes are set to surge, and it is crucial for us to enter the petrol segment.” Once the petrol engine is ready, Tata Motors will not only enhance the Harrier and Safari but also offer a petrol-powered version of the Curvv and Sierra SUVs, expanding their presence in this dynamic market. As Tata Motors charts its course into an electrified and petrol-powered future, it becomes evident that innovation and adaptability are at the heart of their strategy. With the impending arrival of the electric Harrier and the promise of the 1.5L TGDi engine, the automaker is poised to make waves in the Indian automotive industry, catering to diverse consumer preferences and market demands.
