Confirmed: Yamaha RX 100 Is Coming Back

Yamaha is planning to re-introduce the legend RX 100 in India and it was confirmed by the Chairman of Yamaha India Mr Elishin Chihana. The RX 100 is the legendary motorcycle of Yamaha manufactured between 1985 to 1996, it is a very significant model in the 2-stroke segment of India. The RX100 has got a huge fan following for its smoker 2-stroke engine and the striking exhaust sound. It was quite popular among auto enthusiasts and drag racers. In fact, there were plenty of modifications performed on the bike right from engine tuning, bigger carburettors, and bigger size wheels to disc brakes, and quick throttle. However, the motorcycle is making its come back in India in a new form with obviously modern tech and in its retro style.

The RX100 (also named ‘Pocket Rocket’) was powered by a 98cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine boosted with two-stroke technology. The engine produced a  power of 11bhp and 10.39Nm of torque which is mated to a 4-speed gearbox. It’s a very hard job for Yamaha to bring back the RX100. Yamaha can’t badge any vehicle under the name RX100. The bike should be made and feel legendary to get named RX100. The upcoming RX100 will not be a 2-stroke engine as it will not comply with the emission norms. Yamaha RX 100 will not have a 100 CC engine.

Yamaha has 125 cc, 150 cc, and 250 cc engines on offer hence any one of these engines is expected to come in the new RX100 and the Chairman of Yamaha also conveyed that the upcoming RX100 will be offered in larger displacement engines to give the feel of the old RX100. The Yamaha RX100 was discontinued in India due to its 2-stroke engine, it has unreal performance when 100 cc engines are concerned and is an absolute blast to ride. The nostalgia and craze have kept the RX100 alive in India today. The comeback of the motorcycle is so exciting and obviously making the riders of our country look forward to Yamaha for the big announcement. Yamaha has got a huge liability to build a proper successor to the legendary RX100.
