By Tata Motors officially launched the Tiago CNG automatic in India at the starting price of Rs. 7.90 lakh (Ex-Showroom). The company had already commenced bookings for the Tiago CNG automatic across its dealerships and the response has been positive. This is the first time that CNG and automatic combination is introduced in this segment as most of the models are only available with a manual gearbox. The launch of the automatic variant is certainly going to improve the reach of the CNG variants as it was one of the reasons why people chose regular petrol engines.
Like most of the recent CNG launches from Tata Motors, the Tiago CNG automatic is also available in different variants – XTA, XZA+, XZA+ dual-tone, and XZA NRG. The company adopted this strategy with the introduction of Altroz CNG last year as most of the competitors were offering the CNG in either mid-spec or lower variants as customers who want to get a top-end CNG variant don’t have an option. To differentiate the CNG model from regular petrol, Tata Motors introduced a new Tornado Blue paint along with other colour options.
When compared to manual CNG variants, the automatic is priced at a premium of Rs. 55,000. The Tiago CNG automatic is powered by a 1.2 L Revotron petrol engine producing 72 bhp and 95 Nm in CNG mode but in petrol mode, the power increased to 85 bhp and 113 Nm. This engine is mated to a 5-speed AMT gearbox and according to Tata Motors, the claimed CNG mileage is 28.06 km/kg. Like the Altroz, Tata Motors is offering the Tiago CNG automatic comes with split CNG tag, which doesn’t reduce the boot space by much compared to conventional CNG models.
