Tata Harrier Petrol Spied Ahead Of Launch Next Year

Tata Harrier is currently available with a single diesel engine option while most of the competitors offer petrol engine. So many customers have been waiting for a petrol engine. Recently, a camouflaged test mule of Harrier with some emission testing equipment was spotted in public roads and it is expected to be the petrol model, this engine is developed by the in-house engineers of Tata Motors.

The petrol engine was first announced at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show and it is a 1.6 L turbocharged petrol engine. The new petrol engine comes with direct injection technology as it is likely to improve the performance and efficiency of the motor. The company hasn’t revealed the exact power figures but rumours suggest that the engine could produce around 150 hp of power and 250 Nm of torque, which is par along with competitors.

The gearbox options for the Harrier petrol engine will be same from the Diesel as it will be a 6-speed manual unit along with Hyundai sourced 6-speed torque convertor. The introduction of automatic option earlier this year was the big transformation for the Harrier as the company made some changes as increasing power output has also helped. Tata Motors also launched Dark Edition and Camo Edition thus helping to improve sales too.

The Harrier is based on Land Rover D7 platform and we could also expect Harrier with a four-wheel-drive option in the near future. Tata Motors is also planning to launch the 7-seater version of Harrier, which is called Gravitas and it was expected to be launched this year but due to pandemic, the company had to postpone the launch of early next year. The petrol version of Harrier will be priced aggressively against the competitors like MG Hector, Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta.
