Mercedes Maybach S-Class With V12 Engine Is Coming With AWD System

Mercedes Benz is going to reveal the much-awaited V12 version of the Maybach S-Class soon. Even though the company is yet to reveal the model officially all the details have been leaked as the Maybach S-Class V12 has been listed on the official Russian website of Mercedes Benz. The new model will come with the S680 moniker as earlier it was reserved for the Chinese market and finally the company is used it for the global model.

The S680 is powered by a 6.0 L twin-turbocharged V12 engine producing 604 hp, which is around 17 hp less than the earlier model and the torque output is yet to be revealed but reports point towards the 1000 Nm of the previous generation model. Mercedes Benz is one of the few manufacturers in the world that continues to manufacture the massive V12 engines as most of them have downsized to either V8 or V6, which is the current popular performance engine configuration.

Another big update for the V12 model is that finally, the engineers have given an all-wheel-drive system as all the previous iterations come with a rear-wheel configuration. But the introduction of a four-wheel-drive system has increased the weight and the new model tips the scale at 2,350 kgs but now it will be much easier to put down the power on all weather conditions. The four-wheel-drive system will be rear-wheel focused but depending on traction it can send more power to front wheels.

Even with additional weight and less power, the massive V12 beast can hit 100 kph from standstill in just 4.5 sec, which is impressive and the top speed is limited to 250 kph. If there is no restriction then we reckon it can easily reach the 300 kph and go beyond into the league of AMGs. The S680 won’t be the most powerful S Class as AMG is working on the S63 e and S73 e, both will come with a plug-in hybrid setup too.
