Maruti Suzuki S-Cross Petrol India Launch On August 5

Maruti Suzuki officially revealed the S-Cross petrol at the 2020 Auto Expo and the launch is expected to take place on August 5. The S-Cross is the only model in Maruti’s lineup, which is not yet available with BS6 engine as the BS4 model only came with a diesel engine as it was sourced from Fiat and the company discontinued the 1.3 L diesel engine. This forced Maruti to introduce petrol engine in all models as a replacement for the diesel unit.

India’s largest carmaker has become petrol-only as they don’t offer a diesel engine in any of the models even though company introduced an in-house developed 1.5 L diesel engine in Ciaz and Ertiga but they didn’t upgrade the engine to meet stringent BS6 norms. The S-Cross petrol will be powered by the same 1.5 L K15B series petrol engine, which does duty on a number of models as it produces 105 hp of power and 138 Nm of torque.

This engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic gearbox options. To improve efficiency, we can expect Maruti to offer smart-hybrid technology, which comes with a start-stop system. Like Ciaz, the S-Cross is also likely to get dual-battery set up with lithium-ion battery pack placed below the co-passenger seat. We can expect the S-Cross petrol to give excellent efficiency and it will come on four variants – Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha.

Apart from the engine, Maruti won’t make any other changes for S-Cross as the last update for the crossover came in a couple of years back. The S-Cross is loaded with lots of features like touch screen infotainment system, leather seats, cruise control, keyless entry, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and more. The S-Cross petrol is expected to be priced at a slight premium over the current model as it attracts higher excise duty because of the bigger engine.
