Maruti Suzuki’s Celerio has reached a remarkable milestone by crossing the 7 lakh unit sales mark, firmly establishing itself as a popular choice among Indian car buyers. Since its launch in 2014, the Celerio has evolved and garnered an impressive following. Now in its second generation, this entry-level hatchback continues to be a strong contender in its segment. The Maruti Suzuki Celerio, currently available for purchase starting at Rs. 5.36 lakh (ex-showroom), offers a range of options for buyers with four distinct variants: LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi Plus. The diversity in trim levels allows customers to tailor the Celerio to their specific preferences.

Under the hood, the Celerio is powered by a BS6 Phase 2.0-compliant 1.0-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine, which produces 66bhp and 89Nm of peak torque, can be coupled with either a five-speed manual or an AMT gearbox, providing flexibility for various driving preferences. Furthermore, for those who prioritize fuel efficiency and environmental concerns, there’s also a CNG version of the Celerio available, complete with a manual gearbox. The Celerio’s journey began as a successor to the A-star and Ritz models. It made its debut with a 1.0-liter petrol engine, marking a significant shift towards more efficient and modern powertrains.

Over the years, the Celerio evolved to meet changing market demands. It even briefly featured an 800cc diesel engine. However, in alignment with Maruti Suzuki’s strategic shift towards petrol-only vehicles in India, the diesel variant was phased out. In 2021, Maruti Suzuki unveiled the second generation of the Celerio, infusing new features and design elements to keep it contemporary and competitive in the Indian automotive market.
