By Ford is planning to expand its software business in India even though the company ceased its manufacturing operations in 2021 the software division of the American manufacturer is returning good profits. Currently, Ford Business Solutions boasts a workforce of 12,000 employees at its Chennai facility. Looking ahead, the company plans to bolster its ranks by hiring an additional 3,000 employees over the next 2-3 years. These recruits will be instrumental in developing applications tailored for Ford’s global electric vehicle (EV) platforms.
Mike Amend, Chief Enterprise Tech Officer at Ford Motor Company, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation. He highlighted the development of new manufacturing lines for electric vehicles in Chennai, incorporating cutting-edge technologies like virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) to model and simulate assembly line processes for their EV platforms. The investment isn’t just about hardware; Ford is also funnelling resources into software solutions. Around $250 million has been injected into its Chennai centre over the last 5 years, with a continued focus on areas such as cloud engineering, software reliability engineering, development engineering, and advanced platform capabilities.
Moreover, Ford is at the forefront of developing a cloud-based commerce platform. This innovative platform aims to enhance customer experience by facilitating interactions with dealers for parts, accessories, merchandise, and more. Amend outlined Ford’s multifaceted investment strategy, which encompasses EV-related capabilities, artificial intelligence, machine learning solutions, customer relationship management, digital commerce, data analytics, and cybersecurity solutions. These investments underscore Ford’s commitment to technological advancement and its vision for a digitally driven future.
