Ford Might Partner With Tata Motors For Its India Re-Entry

Ford is planning to make a comeback in India as the company had dropped its plans to sell the Chennai plant. Recently the American manufacturer filed several patents of models like the Endeavour and Mustang Mach-E. But the company hasn’t publically announced any plans for its re-entry but there are lots of speculations. According to a new report, Ford is in talks with Tata Motors for a joint venture for its re-entry as it will benefit both manufacturers as Ford could benefit from the expertise of Tata Motors in India.

The Indian manufacturer is looking to expand its International network and Ford could play an important part in it. The exact details of the joint venture are unknown as reports indicate that the final details are yet to be penned down. Tata Motors is currently leading the electric vehicle segment in India with more than 50 per cent share. This could help Ford to introduce its electric cars and pricing could be key to the success. Apart from electric models, Ford might introduce hybrid vehicles as it is one of the segments which is on an upward trajectory.

Before the exit, Ford was planning to introduce a new compact SUV for the Indian market. This model was rumoured for a very long time as the company was planning to develop it with Mahindra but the plan eventually got dropped. But the design theme appears to be Ford and it does look different from any other models which the company is offering on global markets. This new SUV is likely to be manufactured in India. The American manufacturer might make India an export hub for this particular model. We can expect more details to be revealed in the coming months.
