BMW M5 Facelift Officially Debut On June 17

BMW will officially reveal the much-awaited M5 facelift on June 17. The mid-life update of 5 Series made its global debut last month and the M5 is also expected to get those same treatments. The front gets revised kidney grille, which took inspiration from the 3 Series and it will look much more sporty in the M5 while the headlamps will get new twin LED DRLs with a new design and the changes continue to the front bumper too.

The side design continues to be same from the earlier model except for new alloy wheels. The rear gets redesigned LED tail lamp and the inspiration is evident. The interior changes are limited to new materials and colour options along with a revised instrument cluster. BMW will offer a 12.3-inch infotainment system as part of the standard package. Like the 5 Series facelift, M5 also gets the updated 7th generation of i-drive with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

BMW M5 will be powered by 4.4 L Twin-Turbocharged V8 engine producing 600 hp on the standard model and 625 hp for the competition model. This engine will be mated to a single-clutch 8-speed automatic gearbox. 0-100 kph comes up in 3.2 sec, which is identical to the earlier model and the M5 will hit the top speed of 250 kph, which is electronically limited as all the hard crore M fans will argue than the high-performance sedan has easily hit 300 kph easily.

Recently some journalists were invited to drive M5 facelift prototype as part of the testing process and the engineers behind the M5 shed some light on the changes. The feedback they received from customers and media is that the M5 is slightly stiff and the engineers want to make the new model more comfortable without losing the edge on handling. According to the reviews, they have got it right so the epic fight between M5 and E63 will continue and it will be even more close as new versions of both models will reach the market around the same time.
