Maruti Suzuki Won’t Introduce Swift Sport Or RS In India

Maruti Suzuki officially launched the new-generation Swift earlier this month. In global markets, Suzuki offers a sportier version of the Swift but the company never introduced this model in the Indian market. There were some rumours that Maruti Suzuki would finally bring the RS or Sport version of Swift this time as the market has matured a lot when compared to earlier times Maruti Suzuki had introduced an RS version of the Baleno in India with a Boosterjet engine but the model was not received very well but it was popular among enthusiasts.

Maruti Suzuki sales and marketing head Partho Banerjee confirmed that the company has no plans to introduce the Swift Sport or RS. He said “The Swift is [already] very sporty. When you experience it, I don’t think you’ll ask for a turbo.” So the hope of a sportier version of Swift will be a dream for all enthusiasts. The company is expected to add a CNG variant of Swift sometime later this year. If the company need they can swap the current 1.2 L Z-Series engine for the 1.0 L Boosterjet engine which current does duty on the Fronx.

One of the reasons for not introducing the performance version is that if this particular variant is not successful then it might affect the overall Swift brand as it is one of the best-selling models of Maruti Suzuki in the Indian market. Over the years, we have seen many owners of the Swift customise their cars with various performance additions as the chassis is capable of handling more power. We drove the new generation, Swift, last week and it is certainly a mature model in dynamics when compared to the earlier model but the RS or Sport won’t make it here.
