Toyota Taisor Based On Maruti Fronx To Debut On April 3

Toyota is going to introduce the Taisor in India on April 3rd. The Taisor, based on the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, marks another collaboration between the two automakers, promising a blend of Japanese engineering and Indian practicality. Much like previous shared models, the Taisor is expected to showcase some cosmetic differentiations while retaining the core mechanics borrowed from the Fronx. Under the hood, the Taisor is likely to inherit the powertrain options from its Maruti counterpart.

This includes a choice between a potent 1.0-litre BoosterJet unit generating 100hp and 147Nm of torque, and a reliable 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine delivering 90hp and 113Nm of torque. Transmission options are anticipated to include a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, with the turbo-petrol variant offering a 6-speed torque converter automatic and the petrol variant paired with a 5-speed AMT. While the exterior design of the Taisor may undergo subtle revisions, such as new bumper designs, updated headlamp clusters, and refreshed alloy wheels, significant changes are expected to be limited to soft plastic components, ensuring a familiar yet distinct appearance.

Inside the cabin, the Taisor is likely to feature a dashboard layout reminiscent of the Fronx, albeit with new colour schemes and trim materials to add a touch of sophistication. Expectations also include revamped upholstery for the seats, elevating the overall interior ambience. Toyota’s strategy with the Taisor is anticipated to mirror its approach with previous rebadged models, offering better standard warranties and potentially streamlining the trim options for a more focused lineup. With the Fronx’s popularity predominantly driven by its 1.2-litre petrol engine, it remains to be seen whether the Taisor will introduce the BoosterJet powertrain into Toyota’s lineup, potentially marking a significant departure for the brand known for its dominance in hybrids and diesels.
