Tata Punch EV To Be Launched Next Month In India

Tata Motors, embarking on a series of new car launches, is set to introduce the eagerly awaited Tata Punch EV to the market. While the 2023 Nexon and Nexon EV facelift are slated for a grand unveiling on September 14, new reports have revealed that the Punch EV will follow suit, with its price announcement scheduled for late October this year. Positioned strategically in Tata’s EV lineup, the Punch EV will carve out a niche for itself. It will be positioned between the Tiago EV and the Nexon EV, catering to a diverse range of electric vehicle enthusiasts. This compact electric SUV is poised to take on rivals, with a primary target being the Citroen eC3 in the Indian market. Positioned below the Nexon EV MR (a lower-spec variant of the Nexon EV), it aims to offer an SUV alternative to the Tigor EV sedan.

Under the hood, the Punch EV will be powered by Tata’s cutting-edge Ziptron powertrain. Notably, it’s expected to become the first Tata EV featuring a charging socket mounted upfront on the bumper. Exciting talks circulate about the Punch EV being equipped with four-wheel disc brakes, distinctive alloy wheel designs, and a slew of EV-specific styling enhancements to set it apart from its petrol-powered counterpart. Inside the cabin, a host of cosmetic updates awaits, including the adoption of the two-spoke steering wheel that made its debut on the Nexon facelift. There’s also anticipation regarding the possible inclusion of the larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, akin to the one now available in the Nexon.

The foundation for the Punch EV is Tata’s ALFA platform, bolstered by the gen-2 EV architecture, which represents a significant ICE-to-EV transformation with substantial modifications. This electrifying SUV will house a liquid-cooled battery and a front-wheel-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor. As is tradition with Tata’s EV lineup, the Punch EV may offer customers a choice of two battery sizes and charging options to cater to diverse preferences. Set to compete with the Citroen eC3, its pricing is expected to fall within a similar range as the SUV alternative to the Tigor EV.
