Tata Harrier and Safari to Receive Lane Keep Assist and OTA Updates

In a significant move toward bolstering safety features in their vehicles, Tata Motors is set to introduce lane-keep assist to the pre-facelift Harrier and Safari models. While the automaker had earlier equipped these SUVs with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, blind spot detection, and lane departure warning, the notable omission had been lane-keep assist. Lane-keep assist is a vital safety feature that detects when a vehicle is veering out of its lane and takes corrective action by intervening in the steering, even if the driver hasn’t provided any input. However, Tata Motors had faced technical limitations in incorporating this feature, primarily due to the hydraulic power steering setup in these SUVs.

The good news is that the newly facelifted Harrier and Safari models now come equipped with an electronic power steering system. This shift in steering technology has paved the way for the inclusion of lane-keep assist in these vehicles. However, it’s worth noting that the feature has not been integrated into the recently launched facelifted Harrier and Safari versions. Tata Motors has cited the need for further calibration before it can be introduced in these models. For those who have already purchased the latest Harrier and Safari, there’s relief on the horizon. Tata Motors has confirmed that a software update will be rolled out to provide lane-keep assist to the initial lot of these vehicles.

This enhancement in safety features aligns with Tata’s commitment to improving the safety quotient of their vehicles. The Harrier and Safari duo recently received a 5-star Global NCAP rating for adult and occupant protection, making them stand out with the highest scores achieved thus far in the Safer Cars for India program. Moreover, Tata Motors is taking a step further by implementing over-the-air (OTA) updates for the advanced infotainment system introduced in the facelifted Harrier, Safari, and Nexon lineup. This approach ensures that the vehicles remain up-to-date with the latest technology, enhancing the overall driving experience.
