Tata Altroz Racer Spied For The First Time

Tata Motors had set the automotive world abuzz when they unveiled the Altroz Racer variant at the Auto Expo earlier this year in January. Many were eagerly anticipating the launch of this hot hatch, expecting it to hit the market shortly. However, as the weeks turned into months with no further updates, it seemed as if the Altroz Racer had been pushed to the back burner. That was until recently, when a keen-eyed observer spotted a new test mule of the Altroz in Ooty, bearing a Maharashtra number plate. While the vehicle was draped in full camouflage, a telling clue lay in the handwritten ‘Racer’ marking on the engine. This couldn’t be mere coincidence.

A peek inside the test mule also revealed the presence of a 6-speed gearbox, further cementing the case for this being the Altroz Racer. Two other Altroz units accompanied the test mule, one in a sleek grey shade and the other boasting an all-black look. However, the dark Altroz raised eyebrows with cables running from the hood through the slot meant for the rear-view mirror. Tata’s exact intentions behind this configuration remain a mystery. Although there is no official statement from Tata, it’s speculated that the Altroz Racer could make its debut by the end of the year or early 2024. Positioned as a contender against the Hyundai i20 N Line, it’s expected to come with a premium price tag, considering the additional features.

One of the highlights of the Altroz Racer is its 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine, generating 120 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque. This power boost, compared to the standard Altroz, is expected to make a noticeable difference in its driving dynamics, potentially enabling it to reach 0 to 100 kmph in under 10 seconds. In terms of performance, the Altroz Racer’s turbo petrol engine closely rivals that of the Hyundai i20 N Line. It’s equipped with special cosmetic upgrades both inside and out, offering features like ventilated leatherette seats, a wireless charger, an electric sunroof with voice assist, air purifier, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and rear AC vents, making it a hot hatch to watch out for in the near future.
