Maruti Suzuki officially launched the fourth-generation Swift earlier this month. Earlier we reported that Maruti is not planning to introduce a sportier version of the Swift in India. According to new reports, the company is planning to launch a CNG version of Swift soon in the Indian market. This decision aligns with the company’s commitment to offering eco-friendly mobility solutions without compromising on performance. The 2024 Maruti Swift comes equipped with a new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Z12E naturally aspirated petrol engine, delivering a commendable 82hp and 112Nm torque.
This engine, coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission or an optional 5-speed AMT, promises an exhilarating driving experience. What sets the Swift apart is its distinction as the first Maruti Suzuki vehicle in India to feature this cutting-edge powertrain. The introduction of a CNG option further solidifies Maruti Suzuki’s position as an industry pioneer. The Swift will be the maiden model to combine the new engine with a CNG setup, emphasizing the brand’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.
While the CNG variant is expected to offer slightly lower power and torque outputs in pure CNG mode, it compensates with exceptional fuel efficiency. With the manual gearbox, the new Swift boasts an impressive 24.80 kmpl, while the automatic transmission variant leads its class with 25.75 kmpl. The Swift CNG is projected to exceed expectations with a mileage of over 32 km/per kilogram (km/kg). As for pricing, the CNG variants are anticipated to be approximately Rs 90,000-95,000 dearer than their petrol counterparts.
