Skoda Celebrates Production of Three Million SUVs

Skoda is celebrating a significant milestone as it marks the production of its three-millionth SUV. The commemorative vehicle, a sleek black Kodiaq in the Sportline trim, rolled off the assembly line at the Kvasiny factory in the Czech Republic, highlighting the brand’s remarkable journey in the SUV segment. Skoda’s venture into the world of SUVs began in 2009 with the introduction of the quirky Yeti, paving the way for a successful SUV lineup. In 2016, the Kodiaq joined the family, followed by the compact Karoq in 2017 and the subcompact Kamiq in 2019. The SUV range expanded further in 2020 with the arrival of the fully electric Enyaq and its sportier counterpart, the Enyaq Coupe.

While these models are globally recognized, Skoda has also tailored its SUV offerings for specific regions. Notable examples include the China-specific Kamiq GT and Kodiaq GT. Additionally, there’s the Kushaq crossover, designed and manufactured in India to cater to the local market. Skoda plans to export CKD (completely knocked-down) kits of the Kushaq to Vietnam, where assembly is set to commence in the latter half of 2024.

Among all the SUVs in Skoda’s portfolio, the Kodiaq stands as the clear favorite, boasting a remarkable 841,900 units sold, including the GT variant available in China. The Karoq follows closely behind with 705,800 units, while the Yeti, in production until 2018, amassed a total of 684,500 vehicles. The Kamiq and Kamiq GT, collectively, have contributed 537,100 sales, while the electric Enyaq and Enyaq Coupe have found homes with 166,900 buyers. Lastly, the Kushaq, a newcomer in the lineup, has been adopted by 63,900 happy customers to date.

Skoda’s SUV production spans across several countries, including the Czech Republic, China, India, Ukraine, and Slovakia. Currently, SUVs account for nearly half of Skoda’s global deliveries, demonstrating the segment’s growing popularity among customers. Looking ahead, the Kodiaq is poised for its second generation, with a world premiere scheduled in the near future. This new iteration will share a platform with the recently unveiled 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan and will feature a plug-in hybrid variant boasting an impressive electric range of over 62 miles (100 kilometers).

In the coming years, Skoda has more in store for its SUV enthusiasts, with the next-generation Enyaq and Enyaq Coupe slated for a 2025 launch. Moreover, a larger seven-seat electric SUV is on the horizon for a 2026 debut. Previewed by the Vision 7S concept, this three-row family SUV is expected to offer generous interior space, measuring approximately 193 inches (4.9 meters) in length. Skoda’s commitment to the SUV segment continues to evolve, catering to diverse customer needs and preferences around the world.
