Next-Generation BMW 5 Series Long Wheelbase Coming To India

BMW commenced the works on the eighth generation 5 Series sometime back and we have seen so many spy pictures of the prototype with less camouflage in recent times as the official debut is expected to take place in March. But the big news is that the German manufacturer is planning to introduce a long-wheelbase variant of the next-generation 5 Series in India, it is going to be a significant milestone for the Indian market as BMW is working on a model-specific for our market.

The company has already done it in the past with the introduction of the 3 Series Gran Limo as India is the only market in the world to get the right-hand drive version of this particular 3 Series as the left-hand drive model is already available in China. BMW already offers the current-generation 5 Series in long wheelbase avatar in China but never made it to India. The German manufacturer has seen success with the 3 Series Gran Limo, which is why they decided to go ahead with this project.

This particular segment in India is dominated by the long-wheelbase Mercedes Benz E Class and to take on it, BMW needs to introduce the long-wheelbase 5 Series as most of the buyers are chauffeured around so rear legroom is more important. The G60 5 Series is based on the CLAR platform like the current model and the company will also offer an electric version like the 7 Series and i7. BMW might take some time to develop the right-hand drive version so we can expect the launch to take place by the end of 2024 or early 2025 in India.
