By Mahindra finally launched the two-wheel drive variant of Thar in India at the starting price of Rs. 9.99 lakh (Ex-Showroom). The two-wheel drive variant of the Thar is available with both petrol and diesel engine but the diesel engine is the smaller 1.5 L unit from the XUV 300 and produces 117 hp of power and 300 Nm of torque. The Indian manufacturer offers the diesel 4×2 variant of Thar with a 6-speed manual gearbox only as automatic comes with the bigger 2.2 L engine.
The Thar 4×2 also comes with a 2.0 L turbocharged petrol engine with 130 hp of power and 300 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed torque converter gearbox. Mahindra decided to introduce the two-wheel drive variant with a smaller diesel engine, so the lifestyle off-roader will get excise duty benefits as the overall length is just below 4 metres. Apart from this, the new variant is available in Blazing Bronze and Everest White. The petrol 2WD Thar priced at Rs. 13.49 lakh (Ex-Showroom).
