Mahindra Won’t Launch Thar 5 Door In 2023

Mahindra Thar 5 Door India launch won’t take place in 2023 as it was confirmed by Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO (Auto and Farm Sector), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd during the press meet of Q4 and FY23 results. Instead of this year, the Indian manufacturer will launch the Thar 5 Door in 2024 and he has also confirmed that there won’t be any launch from Mahindra this year, which is surprising considering that its arch-rival Maruti Suzuki Jimny is gaining traction at an impressive rate.

One of the reasons for the postponement of the Thar 5 Door launch is that the waiting period for existing models is really high and the supply chain issues are yet to be sorted out. The recently launched Thar 2WD model waiting period is over 16 months especially for the diesel variant while the Scorpio N extend to 18 months and 13 months for the XUV 700. When considering all this, it’s the right decision from the company’s point of view as they need to address current customers.

The price announcement of Jimny will take place on June 7th and the bookings have already crossed 35,000 after the reviews have come out as it is one of the best off-roaders in the market. If Mahindra continues to delay the launch of the Thar 5 door then Jimny doesn’t have any direct competition as Force Gurkha 5 door is not on the horizon and once they launch the product, they might not get a similar response to the Thar 3 door because the competition will be established by that time.
