Lexus is one of the youngest luxury car makers in India as the company commenced its India operations in 2017. The Japanese manufacturer has quickly managed to make a footprint in the Indian luxury market thanks to its unique dealerships and Industry-best customer services. P B Venugopal, President of Lexus India confirmed that the short to long term strategies of the company won’t change in India due to the ongoing pandemic.

We are staying committed to the Indian market and there is no change in our plans. We will continue to keep investing. We will find more customers in the luxury car market looking at cars that are more environment-conscious. And we feel that this percentage might go up, which will give us an opportunity to further increase our volumes. The made-in-India ES will become the real foundation for the future success of Lexus in India. We are always studying various opportunities of future local production

Toyota’s luxury wing initially introduced models via CBU route and most of the products were priced on the premium end compared to its rivals. Earlier this year, Lexus commenced local assembly operations of its entry-level sedan ES in India. The CKD model price starts at Rs. 51.90 lakh for the entry-level model and Rs. 56.95 lakh for the fully kitted out variant, which is much lower than the earlier CBU model at Rs. 59.95 lakh.

Lexus is planning to add more models to the CKD portfolio and the next model inline is the entry-level NX SUV as it could certainly help the company to improve volume. Venugopal has also confirmed that the company is not planning to launch any new models in the next one year as they are focusing on CKD operations. Soon Lexus will open four dealerships in India at Kochi, Chennai, Hyderabad and Chandigarh but most of these places already have service centres.
