Honda Amaze Scores Two Stars In Global NCAP, New Model Coming

This latest round of crash testing is going to be the last batch of Indian cars to be tested by Global NCAP. The made-in-India Amaze, which is sold in the South African market was already tested back in 2019 and scored a respectable four-star rating. In the new testing, the Honda Amaze has managed to get just a two-star rating, which is disappointing compared to earlier. Global NCAP’s report highlighted critical deficiencies in child protection, including head contact during frontal impacts and elevated risks of injury for both three-year-old and 1.5-year-old occupants.

Contributing factors to this subpar performance included the absence of three-point seat belts in all seating positions, a lack of passenger airbag disconnection switch, and installation failures in some Child Restraint Systems (CRSes). Similarly, the Amaze’s adult occupant protection score was impacted by the absence of optional side head protection, standard Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and a seat belt reminder solely for the driver. While Honda had recently updated its Indian lineup with additional safety features, including seat belt reminders for all seats, these enhancements were not reflected in the tested model.

Recently, Honda has improved the safety of Amaze as the company has added several new features as part of the update. The current-generation Amaze is in its last leg as the company is already working on the next-generation model, which is expected to be introduced sometime later this year. Honda is expected to make lots of improvements to the platform along with the body to improve safety and the Japanese manufacturer will add more safety features too, which could result in better crash test ratings in future.
