This is the second time, Kia Carens has been testing in Global NCAP as the MPV scored zero stars in the initial rating. Following its initial disappointing rating, Kia proactively addressed the identified shortcomings, particularly focusing on enhancing neck protection for occupants. Global NCAP acknowledged Kia’s quick response, noting a marked improvement in adult occupancy protection for Carens manufactured after December 11, 2023. Despite this progress, Global NCAP expressed some disappointment, considering the Carens’ provision of six airbags as standard.
In both rounds of testing, concerns persisted regarding bodyshell integrity in frontal impacts, indicating areas for further enhancement. Additionally, limitations in side pole impact testing were noted due to the three-star rating. Although standard seatbelt reminders were present, their efficacy was highlighted as only meeting requirements for the front row. Nevertheless, the Carens showcased significant strides in child occupancy protection, with its second-round assessment yielding a notable improvement.
From a four-star rating and a score of 40.92 out of 49 in the initial test, the Carens transitioned to a five-star COP rating with an impressive score of 41/49 in its subsequent evaluation. Equipped with a range of safety features as standard, including six airbags, ESC, and ISOFIX anchors, the Carens underscores Kia’s commitment to prioritizing occupant safety. Despite initial setbacks, Kia’s proactive approach and dedication to improvement have resulted in a more reassuring safety profile for the Carens, enhancing its appeal to safety-conscious consumers worldwide.
