By Skoda finally took the wraps off the fourth-generation Fabia after a lengthy teaser session. Finally, Fabia made the switch to the new MQB A0 platform of Volkswagen, which is used by most of its siblings. The change in platform helped the premium hatchback to increase the overall dimensions as length has gone up by 111 mm and wheelbase by 93 mm. The boot space has also increased by 50 litres to 350 litres and it can be further extended by folding the second row.
The design theme of Fabia is completely different from the outgoing model but adopts the family look as it is in line with other Skoda models. The front gets a signature grille of Skoda along with a new design for headlamps and for the first time, Fabia gets LED units. The lower portion of the bumper gets bigger air intakes while the top-spec model gets 18-inch alloy wheels. The rear tail lamps are LED and the design is similar to Scala with a new bumper.
The Fabia now comes with two new shades – Orange Sunset & Graphite Grey. The interior design of Fabia is modern and elegant as the stand out feature is the new two-spoke steering wheel. For the first time, Skoda is offering a 10.25 inch fully digital instrument cluster and the infotainment system is a new 9.25 inch with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The quality of materials has improved a lot and the engineers have focused on reducing noise inside the cabin.
Skoda is offering lots of premium features with Fabia like Panoramic Sunroof, Dual-Zone Climate Control, LED Ambient Lights, rear-AC vents and more. The new Fabia come with 43 Simply Clever features to make the experience better. The engine options are all petrol in Europe as the company is not offering diesel powertrains. The entry-level models get a 1.0 L engine and the range-topping variant gets a 1.5 L turbocharged unit. Skoda is expected to bring the new Fabia to India.
