Ford Trademarks Mustang Mach-E Name In India, India Re-Launch Soon

Ford plans to return to the Indian market as the American manufacturer decided not to sell its Chennai plant to MG. The company had already patented the Ford Endeavour design in India. Now the company has patented the Mustang Mach-E name in India. This has again confirmed that the American manufacturer is planning to make a comeback soon. The exact timeline is yet to be announced but we can expect the company to announce new models sometime during the festival season or early next year.

The Mustang Mach-E holds promise as Ford’s flagship offering for its India re-entry. Originally confirmed for an India launch shortly after Ford ceased local operations in 2021, the Mustang Mach-E is expected to arrive as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) under import regulations allowing for up to 2,500 units without homologation. However, its premium positioning is likely to command a price tag exceeding Rs 1 crore, notwithstanding the benefits of lower GST rates for EVs.

Internationally, the Mustang Mach-E offers a diverse range of configurations, including Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and All-Wheel Drive (AWD) setups, as well as standard and extended-range variants. Ranging from the entry-level RWD model with a 72kWh battery to the top-spec GT AWD variant boasting a 91kWh battery, the Mach-E promises impressive performance and range across its lineup. While details regarding the specific Mach-E variants destined for India remain scarce.
