BMW To Launch Next-Generation 5-Series and i5 India Launch In Festival Season

BMW officially revealed the eighth generation of the 5 Series last year and reports confirmed last year that the German manufacturer will introduce the long-wheelbase version of the 5 Series in India. Like global markets, India will get both the ICE and EV model i5 at the same time. According to Autocar India, BMW is going to introduce the next-generation 5 Series long-wheelbase and i5 in India during the festival season. This will be the first time, India will get the long-wheelbase version of the 5 Series as earlier it was mostly reserved for the Chinese market.

One of the major differences between the regular version and the long-wheelbase version of the 5 Seris is the wheelbase as the company extended it by 110 mm which has increased the rear legroom substantially. Mercedes Benz had already proved with the introduction of E Class long-wheelbase in India that customers will accept it even if the price is on the premium end. The company is yet to reveal the right-hand drive long-wheelbase version of the 5 Series but the Chinese market already got it, which will be similar to the India version.

The exterior design theme of the 5 Series is similar to the 3 Series rather than the 7 Series which is good as the company hasn’t given a big kidney grille. The design looks clean and doesn’t look aggressive. One of the best-looking parts of the design is the rear. The interior is also completely new and the dashboard is dominated by a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and 14.9-inch infotainment system with the latest i-drive software. The 5 Series will be available with both diesel and petrol engine options while the EV is likely to come only with the eDrive40 variant.
