By BMW Motorrad India is cruising towards a stellar year, with a remarkable 6,778 motorcycles sold in the first nine months of 2023, reflecting a substantial 26 per cent YoY growth. This achievement already represents an impressive 93 per cent of the 7,282 units sold in the entirety of 2022. The sales success can be largely attributed to the persistent demand for BMW’s motorcycles, particularly the 310cc series produced in partnership with TVS Motor Company at their facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.
The year 2023 started strong for BMW Motorrad India, with 4,667 units sold in the January-June period, marking a significant 50 per cent YoY growth and the highest-ever sales for the company in the first half of a calendar year. The momentum continued in the July-September quarter, with an additional 2,111 units finding new homes. The BMW G 310 lineup accounted for the lion’s share of the sales, contributing to around 6,000 units or 88 per cent of the January-September 2023 sales.
Recently, BMW Motorrad India celebrated a decade of collaboration with the rollout of the 150,000th 310cc series motorcycle from TVS’ Hosur plant, underlining the successful partnership’s importance. The premium segment, available as completely built-up units (CBUs), experienced a robust 36 per cent YoY growth. The BMW GS Adventure segment, in particular, garnered immense popularity, with cumulative sales crossing 10,000 units in India to date.
BMW Motorrad India’s sales achievements are not just noteworthy on the national stage but also on a global scale. With the 6,778 units sold in the first three quarters of 2023, BMW Motorrad India accounted for 4.11 per cent of BMW Motorrad’s global sales, which totalled 164,908 units – a 3.5 per cent YoY increase. This is an improvement over the 3.58 per cent share the Indian market held in 2022. With the festive season well underway and demand for premium motorcycles remaining robust in India, BMW Motorrad India is expected to maintain its strong sales performance. If the current pace continues, the company is likely to surpass the 9,000-unit sales mark for 2023, making it an exciting year for BMW Motorrad enthusiasts in the country. The question that remains is whether they will come close to reaching the 10,000-unit milestone.
