Tata Safari Price Hiked For The First Time

Tata Motors launched the much-awaited Safari in February 2021. Since the company announced earlier this month that the price across the portfolio will be increased by up to 1.8 per cent. Now the exact details of the price hike have come and the price of Safari has been increased by up to Rs. 35,000. The Safari is available in seven variants – XE, XM, XT, XT+, XZ, XZ+ and Adventure Persona. The base variant price has been increased by Rs. 29,500 and starts at Rs. 14.99 lakh (Ex-Showroom).

While all other variants price saw a hike of Rs. 35,000 and the top-spec Adventure Persona variant now retails at Rs. 21.81 lakh (Ex-Showroom). Even though the Safari is priced at a premium of Rs. 1 lakh over the 5-seater Harrier, people are choosing the model because of the flexible seating options and the iconic name is also another reason for the success as the company has got so many free promotions because of the name alone.

Tata sold 1514 units of Safari last month, which is slightly lower than 2148 units in March 2021. But that was expected as most of the model posted negative growth because of the COVID-19. Even with the introduction of Safari, sales of Harrier has been consistent as the company managed to sell 1712 units last month, which is slightly lower than March. The sales of Harrier has been hovering around the 2000 unit mark for some time now.

The Safari is powered by the same 2.0 L diesel engine from Harrier with 168 PS and 350 Nm. This engine is mated to a new 6-speed manual gearbox from Fiat and the same 6-speed torque-converter from Hyundai. Some of the updates on Safari over Harrier is the introduction of an electronic parking brake along with Hill-Hold Assist, four-disc brakes (2 discs + 2 drum setup on Harrier), ambient lighting, iRA connected tech and 7-seats.
