Mahindra To Discontinue Marazzo And KUV100

Mahindra is planning to discontinue models, which are not selling well and instead focusing more on SUV models to take forward the company. Among the line, the first to bid goodbye will be the Marazzo as the company managed to sell just 711 units in the last four months, which is very poor considering the main rivals Innova and Ertiga/XL6 have sold more than 56,000 units combined. Even though when compared to other models Marazzo is a fairly new model.

The company introduced the Marazzo in 2018 and it had lots of positives as the MPV was designed by Pininfarina in Italy and comes with lots of space inside the cabin for all three rows. The suspension was tuned really well for Indian road conditions and the MPV was packed with lots of features. Even the pricing was between the Ertiga and Innova, it was one of the reasons for the failure as customers either spend less to choose Ertiga or increased the budget to Innova.

The MPV was introduced as a replacement for the Xylo and it had the same fate as Marazzo as the sales gradually came down after the initial buzz. Mahindra was expected to introduce the powerful petrol engine in the Marazzo with automatic options and Ford was also planning to introduce an MPV based on the Marazzo platform but the JV between both companies called off, which is also another reason to discontinue the model.

The next model is the KUV100, which was not selling well from the get-go as micro-SUV didn’t have any major USP over its hatchback rivals except for the slightly raised driving position. The engine along with a low-quality cabin meant that people choose the hatchback over the KUV100 but it will make come back as an electric model and the concept was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. The eKUV100 is likely to be positioned as a city car with a claimed range of around 147 km.
