Tata Curvv To Get Diesel Engine From Nexon

Tata Motors is going to introduce the production version of Curvv later this year. The initial model will be the electric version of Curvv, which will be launched in the second half of this year. During the concept debut, Tata Motors confirmed that the Curvv will be one of the first models to debut the all-new turbo petrol engine. According to new reports, the Curvv will also come with the same diesel engine from the Nexon, which is the 1.5 L unit as the Indian manufacturer has upgraded the diesel engine to meet new regulations.

Even though this diesel engine misses out on expensive tech like SCR systems, which most of the competitors use instead Tata Motors used a Passive Selective Catalytic Reduction system to meet the emission norms. The 1.5 L engine produces 115 hp of power and 260 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to manual and AMT gearbox options. However, some reports indicate that the company might use a torque converter instead of the AMT gearbox on the Curvv as it competes against models like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

Even though most manufacturers are moving away from diesel engines, Tata Motors is one of the manufacturers which focus on diesel engines as they contribute close to 25 per cent of overall sales. The company is also developing an all-new 1.5 L turbo petrol, which was showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo and it is expected to produce 125 PS of power and 255 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to manual and automatic gearbox options. This engine could be used in a wide variety of Tata Motors products in the future.
