While the initial launch showcased the high-performance Macan Turbo, priced at Rs 1.65 crore ex-showroom, the imminent arrival of lower-powered options promises to expand the market reach of Porsche’s electric lineup. With its cutting-edge electric platform, substantial battery capacity, and advanced EV technology, the new Macan EV marks a significant departure from its predecessor, positioning itself as a premium offering in the electric SUV segment.
However, Porsche’s commitment to accessibility means that more affordable variants are on the horizon, likely to hit Indian roads later this year. Although Porsche has not officially unveiled the specifics of these upcoming models, insights from its existing product lineup, such as the Taycan, offer clues about what to expect. Positioned between the range-topping Turbo and the base Macan 4, the mid-range Macan 4S could offer around 500hp, catering to enthusiasts seeking a balance of performance and value.
Furthermore, a single-motor variant with rear-wheel drive configuration, utilizing the rear motor of the Macan 4, could provide an entry point into the Macan EV lineup. Despite the lower power output, all Macan EV models will boast the same impressive 100kWh battery capacity, ensuring a consistent driving experience across the range. While Porsche’s transition to electric powertrains signals the end of the road for some markets’ Gen 1 ICE Macan, India’s continued demand for petrol cars ensures the ongoing availability of the decade-old model. With variants ranging from the base 2.0-litre four-cylinder Macan to the high-performance Macan GTS, Indian consumers can still enjoy the versatility and performance of Porsche’s first-generation SUV.
