Mercedes G Class Facelift Officially Revealed With Engine Updates

Mercedes Benz introduced the current generation of G Class in 2018 and now it’s time for the company to give a minor update for the SUV. The German manufacturer officially revealed the updated G Class. This time most of the changes are for the engine lineup but before that let’s take a look at the aesthetic changes. The front and rear have a new bumper and a new lip has been added to the windscreen to further improve the airflow. The front camera is now mounted low and all these changes result in a drag coefficient of 0.48, which has come down from 0.53.

The interior is carried over from the current model but the major change is the introduction of new software for the MBUX infotainment system. The company has also added an off-road cockpit into the infotainment system as it gives details like vehicle positioning, altitude, steering angle, and temperature. The transparent hood, which we have first seen on the GLC is now available on the G Class also. Mercedes now offers keyless entry with the G Class for the first time without redesigning the door handle as it is one of the things which makes G Class unique.

The G Class now comes with a Driver Assistance package as standard and it offers lots of features like adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring and more. The diesel model is powered by the same 3.0 L diesel engine as earlier but now it gets ISG with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system which increases power to 357 hp and 750 Nm, mated to an updated 9-speed gearbox. The AMG G36 continues to be powered by the same 4.0 L V8 engine with 577 hp but this engine gets a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and 0-100 kph comes up in 4.2 sec.
