Maruti Suzuki Extensively Testing ADAS To Adapt It For Indian Roads

Indian consumer trends are changing fast as the adaptation of new technologies is faster which can be evident from the new cars as customers need features like connected car tech and ADAS in their new models but Maruti Suzuki is one of the few manufacturers which is yet to offer ADAS tech in the Indian market. The company is evaluating the ADAS for the Indian market and charting out a road map for the introduction. Maruti wants to test these systems extensively on Indian roads and adapt them to our unique road conditions.

The ADAS technology makes driving easier and much safer in developed countries as the road infrastructure is advanced but conditions in India are different as our roads are not safer because of the lack of awareness and most people don’t follow rules, which is why Maruti wants to test the ADAS with these scenarios and make necessary changes. The recently launched Invicto didn’t come with ADAS technology even though Toyota offers this same tech on the Innova Hycross as the company doesn’t want to rush this technology into the market.

Mahindra is one of the first manufacturers to mass market the ADAS technology with the XUV700 followed by MG, Honda and Hyundai. Kia is also offering the ADAS tech with the updated Seltos as customers need this tech. CV Raman, chief technical officer, of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said “While it is possible to offer ADAS in our vehicles today, many of the functionalities cannot be used in the city, whereas some can only be leveraged on the highway. Therefore, we are looking at the value proposition to the end customer with respect to the beneficial usage of ADAS.”
