Mahindra To Invest Rs 10000 Crore For Its EV Plant In Pune

The Indian automobile maker Mahindra and Mahindra have announced an investment of Rs 10000 crore to set up an electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Pune as part of its development of electric vehicles in the country. The investments have been approved under the Maharastra government industrial promotion scheme for electric vehicles. The company through its subsidiary will make investments of Rs 10000 crore over a period of 7-8 years for setting up the manufacturing facility, development, and production of Mahindra’s upcoming Born electric vehicle.

Some Mahindra-born electric vehicles were showcased in the UK on August 2022. The company has already unveiled its electric platform the INGLO EV and showcased 5 new electric SUVs, among that 3 SUVs are born electric. The automaker’s EV brands include the existing XUV with the twin peak logo in Copper and the new electric-only brand called BE. The five new electric SUVs include the XUV.e8, XUV.e9, BE.05, BE.07 and BE.09, which will come with Mahindra’s new Heartcore design philosophy. The first four of these will be launched in the next four years, between 2024 and 2026.

Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director, Auto & Farm Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, said, “We are delighted with this approval from the Govt. of Maharashtra for setting up our EV Manufacturing Plant in Pune, and investing in what has been our ‘home’ state for over 70 years.”The Government’s focus on ‘ease-of-doing-business’ and progressive policies, together with Mahindra’s investment, will act as a catalyst for Maharashtra to become India’s EV hub, attracting further Indian and Foreign Direct Investment, he said.
