By Hyundai is planning to launch the updated i20 in the Indian market but this update is for the engine. The Korean manufacturer has already updated the Venue, Creta and Alcazar to meet the new BS6 emission norms and RDE compliance. Currently, the i20 is available with both petrol and diesel engines but as part of the new norms, Hyundai won’t offer the i20 with a diesel engine as it will make the model even more expensive.
The updated i20 will be available with two petrol engines – a 1.2 L Kappa and a 1.0 L turbo unit. The 1.2 L Kappa engine produces 83 PS of power and 113 Nm of torque. The 1.0 L turbo petrol engine comes with 118 PS of power and 172 Nm of torque. The latter will be available only with a 7-speed DCT gearbox while the 1.2 L engine gets a 5-speed manual or CVT gearbox. Hyundai is expected to increase the price of the i20 by around Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 25,000.
