Hyundai to Discontinue i20 And Verna Diesel

Korean Car manufacturer Hyundai is about to pull its plug on diesel variants of the i20 Hatchback and Verna Sedan from 2023 April. Since the diesel variants will not comply with the phase II BS6 emission norms testing on real driving emissions the brand is been preparing to discontinue the diesel engines of the 2 models in the country. The emission norms in the country are getting more strict with diesel engines and all the current running diesel engines will be eventually stopped once the engines reach the end of their respective lifecycle.

The i20 is the premium hatchback offering from Hyundai which is powered by both petrol and diesel engine. The Diesel engine of the i20 is the 1.5 litre 4 cylinder CRDi engine that produces a maximum power of 98.63 bhp and 240 Nm of torque and this engine offers a certified mileage of 25 kmpl. whereas the i20 offers 2 petrol engines a 1.0 lite turbo GDi petrol engine that produces 120 ps power and 172 Nm of torque and a 1.2-litre kappa petrol engine that produces 83 ps power in the manual transmission and 88 ps power in the IVT transmission and offers a maximum torque of 114.7 Nm.

The Verna is the midsize sedan offering from the brand which is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel, 1,5 petrol and 1.0-litre turbo petrol. The 1.5-litre U2 CRDi diesel engine produces 113.45 bhp power and 250 Nm of torque, The 1.5-litre Mpi petrol engine produces 113.18 bhp and 143.8 Nm of torque and the 1.0 litre Kappa turbo GDi petrol produces 118 bhp and 172 Nm of torque. Verna is the only mid-size sedan that is offered in diesel automatic. and from 2023 April onwards both Verna and i20 will be left alone with petrol engines only.
