Hyundai and Kia to Discontinue 1.4 L Turbo Petrol

The 1.4 L turbo petrol powertrain on the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Kia Carens is to be discontinued by the brands. The Korean cousins Hyundai and Kia have been major players in the compact SUV segment with the SUVs Creta and Seltos respectively. These cars have been the volume seller of the brand with the largest sales. The Kia Carens MPV along with the SUVs offers huge tech inside the car and is offered in 3 different powertrains, 1.5 L NA petrol, 1.5 L diesel, and 1.4 turbo petrol. Sources convey that Kia and Hyundai are getting ready to discontinue the 1.4 L turbo petrol and introduce the 1.5 L turbo Petrol engine instead.

Recently the new Creta has been seen testing with emission testing equipment strapped to it. It was believed that the Creta testing was done for the CNG model whereas now It is confirmed that the Creta has been seen testing was the 1.5 L turbo petrol. The 1.5 L engine is seen on many Hyundai and Creta cars overseas. The 1.5 L turbo petrol engine is expected to make 160 bhp and 260 Nm of torque, whereas the 1.4 L turbo petrol produces 140 bhp and 242 Nm of torque. With the 1.5 L turbo petrol, Hyundai is expected to offer only the 7-speed DCT transmission whereas Kia is expected to offer both a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT transmission.

Kia and Hyundai also plan to introduce the CNG on the Creta and Seltos versions. most likely the brands will showcase the CNG version along with the launch of the 1.5 L turbo diesel. with the introduction of CNG- Creta, Seltos and Carens will be offered in 3 different powertrains. With the facelift models, the brands will feature more ADAS tech in the cars and they will be feature-loaded vehicles. This will enable a wide range of choices for customers to choose according to their comfort and this helps the brand to seek the attention of potential buyers.
