Exclusive: Next-Generation Maruti Suzuki Swift Spotted Testing In Kerala

Suzuki officially revealed the next-generation Swift at the Tokyo Motor Show and the model has been spotted testing several times in India. But the test mule has been spotted in Kerala for the first time and like the previous spy shots the test mule is heavily camouflaged hiding most of the details. One thing we can see from the spy video is that the Swift is fully loaded with three passengers sitting at the rear thus the suspension is compressed but the vehicle moves easily from a standstill at the traffic signal which could be thanks to the Hybrid system.

Another thing we have noticed is the new black alloy wheels on the new-generation model and it appears to be slightly larger than the ones currently available. On this particular test mule, the alloy wheels are finished in black colour. The Swift again comes with a traditional antenna instead of the shark-fin antenna on most of the newer models. While Suzuki labels it as the fourth-generation Swift, it is based on a heavily revised version of the third-generation platform. The hatchback’s dimensions remain largely similar to its predecessor, with only minor changes in length, width, and height. The wheelbase remains consistent at 2,450mm.

The interior details of the Indian version remain a mystery, but the model showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show shared similarities with Maruti Suzuki’s Baleno and Fronx. The cabin featured a floating touchscreen unit, a familiar steering wheel, instrument cluster, HVAC controls, and several switchgear components seen in Maruti Suzuki’s latest models in India. The Swift in India is expected to be powered by a new engine and gearbox combination thus making the model even more peppier to drive. The launch of the new Swift is expected next year.
