BSA Brand To Make A Comeback In India

Classic Legends is planning to bring the BSA brand back to India. The company plans to invest Rs. 875 crore to expand the business. BSA was one of the most popular brands in the Indian market with its history dating back to 1861. Acquired by the Mahindra Group in 2018, BSA is expected to make its return to Indian roads in the next 12-18 months. The ambitious move includes the introduction of BSA motorcycles in key international markets such as Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.

The Pithampur plant in Madhya Pradesh will play a crucial role in manufacturing BSA’s electric motorcycles as they are planning to launch electric vehicles. These EVs are anticipated to hit the market around the same time as Royal Enfield’s entry into the electric space in the first half of 2025. Classic Legends, led by CEO Ashish Joshi, envisions becoming the number 2 brand in India’s midsize motorcycle segment. The company plans to achieve this through a combination of product launches, network expansion, and a broader global presence.

Joshi emphasized the potential for substantial growth, leveraging the recent fund infusion. Additionally, Classic Legends is considering the introduction of twin-cylinder motorcycles, though Joshi acknowledged the current low demand in the Indian market for such bikes. The introduction of its electric vehicles will certainly help the company to make an impact on the market and we could expect more models to be introduced after the initial rollout. Yezdi also made a similar comeback but sales are not strong because of the lack of new products.
