BMW 4 Series Officially Revealed With Big Kidney Grille

BMW officially revealed the much-awaited new 4 Series Coupe. The second-generation model is the production version of the Concept 4 Series showcased at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. The 4 Series is basically the coupe version of 3 Series and both models share lots of things in common. The design theme of the production model is similar to the concept and talk of the town in coming months is going to be the big kidney grille but it doesn’t look out of place like on the 7 Series.

According to BMW engineers, the big grille helps the 6-cylinder engines to get more air. The front gets new sharp-looking LED headlamps with optional laser lights and depending on the package, the bumper can be sporty or sedate. The 4 Series Coupe is 55 mm longer, 25 mm wider and 55 mm lower compared to the 3 Series while the rear track is 55 mm wider too as it will give more stability for the 4 Series.

The co-efficient drag of the new model has come down to 0.25 from 0.29, which is segment best. The side design of 4 Series gives the impression of a scale down 8 Series, which is a really good compliment and the German manufacturer offers 18-inch wheels as standard with option 19-inch. The rear gets new LED tail lamps and it is inspired from the 3 Series. BMW has given dual exhaust at the rear with a fake diffuser. The 4 Series Coupe comes with 7 standard and 3 optional colours.

The interior design of 4 Series is in line with other BMW models and especially the 3 Series. BMW offers 8.8-inch touch screen infotainment system as standard with a 5.1-inch digital screen on the instrument cluster but top-spec variants come with a 12.3-inch screen and 10.2-inch digital cluster. The 4 Series gets 7th generation of i-drive with a satellite-based navigation system and the head-up display is 70 per cent wider. BMW has also packed the 4 Series with lots of safety tech.

BMW 4 Series is based on the same CLAR platform as 3 Series but the engineers have made lots of changes to suspension, which will result in better dynamics. The engines options include both petrol and diesel engines. The German manufacturer has also added a 48-volt mild hybrid system to improve efficiency. The range-topping M440i is powered by 3.0 L straight-six petrol engine with 382 hp and 500 Nm, mated to 8-speed automatic gearbox and 0-100 kph in just 4.3 sec. BMW will introduce the hard-core M4 later this year and the 4 Series is expected to reach India sometime next year.
