25 Years Of Tata Indica

Tata Motors is celebrating 25 years of its first indigenously developed passenger car the Indica. Tata Indica is the car that started the Tata passenger vehicle division. The manufacturer has marked the vehicle to be their best model to be produced. It was initially designed and developed in India in 1998. Since then the Indica name tag has been rolled out from its plant for 20 years. Finally, in 2018 the manufacturer stopped the production of the Indica.

The Indica was built with the compactness of a Maruti and the space and comfort of an HM Ambassador, which was the selling point of the vehicle, people in India find it as a combination of the best of two worlds and within 2 years the car became so successful. The car has evolved with features and technologies with time. The manufacturer gave the range-topping Vista and Manza models from the base of the Tata Indica. And even now the platform of the Indica is widely used by Tata Motors in their hatchback Tiago that now equipped with both ICE and EV powertrains.

The Indica was once the vehicle that ruled the taxi industry in the country as people were so happy and comfortable travelling in the Indica. The hatchback Indica and its compact sedan Indigo was the best choices for a taxi commute. The vehicle was powered by both diesel and petrol engines. The 1.4-litre petrol engine produces 60 ps power and 105 Nm of torque whereas the 1.4-litre diesel produces 48 bhp and 85 Nm of torque. The vehicle had evolved in the engine spec also with the addition of a 1.3 multi-jet engine sourced from the fiat at the later stage.

The chairman of Tata Motors Mr Ratan Tata conveyed his happiness of 25 years of Indica through social media. Indica has a special place in the Indian automobile industry and that has helped the brand Tata Motors to firmly step into the passenger mobility division and boom its automobile manufacturing division with enthusiasm and new innovations. The original Indica will be always remembered to be one of the icons of the Indian Automotive Industry.
