Volkswagen To Supply EV Components To Mahindra

Volkswagen Group and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd officially announced a new supply agreement for electric vehicle components. At the heart of this agreement lies Volkswagen’s innovative unified cell concept, a groundbreaking development in its battery strategy. Mahindra will be the first external partner to leverage this technology, receiving components of Volkswagen’s MEB platform for its purpose-built electric platform, INGLO. This platform sets the stage for Mahindra’s ambitious plans to introduce five all-electric SUVs in India, commencing in December 2024.

The supply agreement, slated to span several years, is projected for a total volume of approximately 50 GWh over its lifetime, highlighting the magnitude of the collaboration. This partnership marks the continuation of a journey that began with a partnering agreement and a term sheet in 2022, reflecting the mutual desire of both companies to explore further opportunities for synergy. Volkswagen’s MEB platform, renowned for its versatility and efficiency, serves as a cornerstone for various brands within the Volkswagen Group, including Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, and SEAT/CUPRA, as well as external partners like Ford and now Mahindra.

The partnership, spearheaded by Volkswagen Group Technology and its Platform Business unit, in collaboration with Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd., aims to fortify the companies’ e-mobility presence in the Indian automotive market and expedite the adoption of electric vehicles in the region. Mahindra’s INGLO platform, tailored for the Indian and global markets, embodies scalability and adaptability, accommodating diverse models across different segments. With its ability to integrate two battery packs with distinct cell architectures, the platform underscores Mahindra’s commitment to delivering electric vehicles tailored to varying consumer needs and preferences.
