By Toyota’s latest creation, the FT-3e, emerges as a practical crossover sharing components with its electric sports car counterpart. Designed with an avant-garde flair, this next-generation EV boasts a distinctive angular aesthetic, featuring wide light bars and a striking “floating” roof spoiler that gives it the look of a bZ-badged electric crossover from a future decade. One of the FT-3e’s standout features is the incorporation of external side screens on the doors, providing occupants with vital information on interior temperature, air quality, and battery charge level.
Notably, the squares embedded into the B- and C-pillars likely serve as sensors for fingerprint recognition. The charging port’s unique placement in the left quarter panel sets it apart from the conventional front fender location seen on the bZ4X. The FT-3e’s almost flat roofline promises ample headroom for rear passengers, enhancing the overall comfort and spaciousness of the cabin. Speaking of which, the interior is a technological marvel, boasting an impressive seven screens. Alongside the customary digital driver’s display and central infotainment system, there are two portrait-oriented screens flanking the steering wheel. Additionally, cameras have replaced traditional side mirrors, transmitting their feed to screens positioned at the base of the A-pillars. Even the interior rearview mirror is a digital screen.
While the FT-3e showcases a cutout in the dashboard likely reserved for a head-up display, crucial information such as destination address and estimated time of arrival are neatly displayed to the right, alongside the vehicle’s current speed. Notably, the controls on the door cards appear to be capacitive touch keys, contributing to the concept’s streamlined, futuristic interior design. Though Toyota has not confirmed plans for a production version of the FT-3e, the “FT” designation, representing “Future Toyota,” hints at the potential for future developments. The designation “3” indicates that this electric crossover is smaller in size compared to its bZ4X counterpart, which measures 184.6 inches in length.
