By Tata Motors introduced the Nexon in 2019 and it is the most affordable electric SUV in India. In the 20-2021 financial year, Nexon EV is the best-selling electric car in the country. One of the reasons for the huge success is the pricing as it is much more affordable than its rivals. When compared to its IC engine models, the price difference is minor as the entry-level Nexon EV is cheaper than the top-end diesel version of Nexon.
Last month, the EV segment registered sales of 749 units and among them, 525 units are Nexon EVs. In the second position is MG ZS EV with 156 units while Tata Motors has managed to sell 56 units of Tigor EV and in the fourth position is the Kona EV with 12 units. Even though, when compared to premium rivals like Kona EV and ZS EV, the range of Nexon EV is slightly on the lower side but the huge price difference is a big factor too.
The Nexon EV looks identical to the regular model except for minor changes like a closed grille and some blue elements along with EV badging. The changes to the interior are limited to new colour themes and the instrument cluster gets some tweaks. The battery is placed under the floor like most modern cars and the battery pack is 30.2 kWh, 129 PS of power and 300 Nm torque. The claimed range is more than 300 km with support for fast charging too.
