The Japanese manufacturer Suzuki has confirmed their SUV Jimny to come in an electric avatar. The world is changing towards electric vehicles and it is indeed unavoidable for the brand to step into electric mobility. The carmaker is planning to introduce 5 new electric vehicles in Europe in 2024. However, the first electric vehicle from the brand will be the production-spec of the eVX Concept which was showcased at the 2023 Delhi auto expo. The electric avatar of the Jimny SUV is expected to make its debut by 2030. Unlike other manufacturers, Suzuki is not becoming fully electric soon. The carmaker continues its research and development on bringing good carbon-neutral combustion engines. Maruti Suzuki’s strategy in India is to bring in electric vehicles by the year 2030.
Suzuki has different plans in different countries. However, on the domestic market, Suzuki is planning to bring 6 new eclectic vehicles by 2030. The electric version of the Jimny will be a very interesting model around the world. The Jimny is a very capable off-roader which is currently powered by a 1.5 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 100 bhp. When it comes to electricity it becomes very easy for the carmaker to increase the power of the vehicle to make it quick and increase its torque for better and easy off-roading. The technical details and specifications of the electric Jimny are not revealed but the current Jimny will continue with its boxy silhouettes just like the ICE version.
The automaker’s mission is to expand its lineup with vehicles that move toward the “realization of a carbon-neutral society.” The brand expects to achieve carbon neutrality in India by the year 2070. The manufacturer is making an investment of 49 billion US dollars towards the development of an electric line-up. Suzuki’s multi-billion jump into EVs will expand across markets in Japan, Europe and India. The fully electric model of the brand will make its debut in its home country Japan in 2023. Europe and India are set to follow in 2024, and within the following six years, Suzuki expects to have between five to six EV models available in these markets.
