Skoda Unveils Next-Generation Kodiaq: A Bold New Era in SUV Design

Skoda has pulled the wraps off the eagerly awaited next-generation Kodiaq, showcasing a fresh design language and a slew of modern features. As the Czech brand’s flagship SUV, the Kodiaq has been highly anticipated, especially after its sibling brand Volkswagen recently unveiled the new Tiguan, sharing the same MQB-Evo platform. However, beneath the surface similarities, the Kodiaq has its unique identity with a bold new look aligned with Skoda’s ‘Modern Solid’ design philosophy.

The standout changes include squared-off wheel arches, a distinctive hexagonal grille, a sculpted bonnet, and an updated model badge in a new corporate font. The Kodiaq also debuts Skoda’s new logo on a production vehicle, giving it a fresh and contemporary appearance. Additionally, buyers can opt for an LED light strip on the front end, aligning it with its electric sibling, the Enyaq. The exterior transformation is accompanied by increased dimensions, making the new Kodiaq 61mm longer than its predecessor and boasting a wheelbase of 2791mm. This results in improved passenger space, particularly in the optional third row, where headroom has been increased to 920mm. Even with the rear seats in place, luggage capacity has grown by 70 liters to 340 liters. The five-seat version offers an impressive 910 liters of cargo space.

Inside the cabin, the new Kodiaq takes inspiration from the upcoming Skoda Superb, featuring a redesigned control suite. It includes a 10-inch digital gauge cluster, an optional head-up display, and a free-standing touchscreen available in 10 or 13 inches to manage various vehicle functions. Notably, the new Kodiaq introduces three physical ‘smart dials’ ahead of the center console, offering convenient control over climate settings, infotainment volume, driving modes, and more. The Kodiaq lineup also includes a plug-in hybrid variant called the Kodiaq iV, combining a 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor to deliver 204hp and an impressive EV-only range exceeding 100km from its 25.7kWh under-boot battery. Additionally, the Kodiaq offers a range of pure-combustion engines, with outputs ranging from 150hp to 204hp, all paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Skoda has incorporated an array of standard equipment in the new Kodiaq, including the Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) suspension control package, which enhances dynamics and refinement. While the Kodiaq’s India debut is expected in 2024, details about its powertrain configuration for the Indian market are yet to be confirmed. Nevertheless, Skoda’s next-generation Kodiaq promises to be a compelling addition to the SUV market with its striking design and advanced features.
