Revving into the Future: The 2024 Honda CB650R and CBR650R Unveiled with E-Clutch Innovation

Honda has unveiled the 2024 CB650R and CBR650R at the prestigious EICMA show in Milan, and they come with exciting updates. Both bikes share the same 649cc inline four-cylinder engine and steel-tube chassis as their predecessors. The power figures remain unchanged, with 94 bhp at 12,000 rpm and 63 Nm of torque at 9,500 rpm, complemented by Honda’s trusted HSTC traction-control system. The most notable addition to these models is the introduction of the E-Clutch option, making the CB650R and CBR650R the first Hondas to offer this feature.

The E-Clutch provides riders with the flexibility of clutchless operation or traditional manual clutch engagement. This innovative system is made possible through two electric motors controlled by its dedicated ECU, mounted in a modified clutch cover. This addition only adds 4.4 pounds to the overall bike weight, making it a practical and versatile choice for riders. Both the CB650R and CBR650R receive a modern update with a full-color TFT dash, and riders can control it through new backlit bar controls. This technology also enables phone connectivity and turn-by-turn navigation via Honda’s RoadSync app. A USB-C socket under the seat allows convenient phone charging.

Stylistically, the CB650R retains its signature Neo Sports Café design, now featuring a redesigned LED headlight inspired by the CB1000R, a shorter tail, and updated radiator cowls. The CBR650R shares the rear-end changes but incorporates a front fairing design reminiscent of the latest CBR1000RR. What truly sets these bikes apart is the E-Clutch system. It uses a load sensor in the gearshift linkage to ensure smooth gear changes, both up and down, without touching the clutch lever. Riders can select from three sensitivity presets or switch to manual mode to regain full control. The 2024 Honda CB650R and CBR650R promise a fresh and exciting riding experience with the E-Clutch technology and a host of other modern features while staying true to their powerful and reliable heritage.
