Porsche India Registered 52 Per Cent Growth This Year, Sold One Panamera Each Week

COVID-19 has resulted in very low numbers for most of the manufacturers including the luxury car makers but Porsche registered 52 per cent growth in the first quarter of this year as the German manufacturer sold 154 units. The interesting fact is that the sports car maker was able to sell one Panamera each week in India, which is a big thing considering that our market is very small and still the company has managed to do it.

The Macan and Cayenne were already popular in the Indian market as we usually like SUVs more and the sales number reflect it as the company registered 38 per cent growth compared to the last quarter. Even though these SUVs has become Petrol only as earlier the high-performance SUVs were offered with a diesel engine but the company discontinued it during the transformation of BS6 era last year as VW Group has become petrol only in India.

The Sportscar range of Porsche including Cayman, Boxster and 911 Series also registered a growth of 26 per cent compared to the same quarter last year. The excellent sales growth is giving more confidence for Porsche to invest more in India and they are expanding the dealership network across India as the company currently has 6 dealerships. They are planning to open five more dealerships in major cities over the next year.

The German manufacturer is working with Volkswagen Group partners across the country to offer more service networks as it will help customers thus resulting in more sales. Porsche is planning to introduce more performance variants in India. There are some rumours of Taycan launch, which is the first electric car from the German manufacturer as their arch-rival Tesla is also coming to India and many customers in India are interested in the high-performance electric car.
