Next-Generation Jeep Compass To Get Electric Option In India

Jeep is developing the next-generation Compass, which is expected to make its debut in 2026 and is codenamed J4U, and will be part of the next generation of the Jeep Compass SUV. What sets this apart is that it will be based on Stellantis’ cutting-edge STLA M platform. The STLA M platform, unveiled by Stellantis in July of the previous year, prioritizes electrification while maintaining flexibility for conventional powertrains. This adaptability allows for both front- and four-wheel-drive configurations, accommodating battery packs with capacities up to an impressive 98kWh. Stellantis boasts remarkable range figures, with the Standard pack surpassing 500km and the Performance pack achieving over 700km according to WLTP standards.

The platform’s 400-Volt electric architecture is not only efficient, consuming less than 14kWh per 100km, but also quick-charging, with a 20-80 per cent charge achievable in just 27 minutes at a rate of 2.4kWh per minute. The electric motors available for this platform deliver a substantial power range, from 218hp to 388hp. In addition to the groundbreaking electric powertrain, the next-gen Jeep Compass is expected to offer turbo-petrol and diesel engine options. While specific details about these conventional powertrains are yet to be confirmed, it underscores Jeep’s commitment to catering to diverse preferences in the Indian market.

The STLA Medium platform’s modular nature is noteworthy, allowing for variations in lengths and wheelbases between 4.3-4.9m and 2.7-2.9m, respectively. This adaptability positions the platform to underpin a wide array of vehicles in the C- and D-segments, hinting at future possibilities for Jeep and its sister brand, Citroen. The forthcoming Jeep Compass EV, alongside Citroen’s next-generation models, marks a transformative era in the Indian automotive landscape, embracing advanced technology and sustainable mobility solutions.
