Next-Generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe Rendered

The next-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is inching closer to reality, with production set to begin in just over a year. Despite the current model being introduced in 2020, BMW has opted for a full generational leap rather than a mid-cycle refresh for the compact sedan. Internally known as the F74, the upcoming model is now in development, and renderings have emerged, giving us a glimpse of what to expect from the brand’s smallest sedan. These renderings, courtesy of Kolesa.ru, provide a digital sneak peek at the significantly redesigned BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe.

While the overall side profile and proportions remain familiar, the front fascia is sharper, featuring headlights that seem to draw inspiration from the larger 5 Series. Notably, there’s no sign of the oversized kidney grilles seen in some recent BMW models, as the company has reserved this design feature for its larger and more performance-oriented vehicles. The depicted model in the renderings appears to be the range-topping M235 xDrive, evident from the four exhaust pipes at the rear. Earlier this year, spy photographers captured a prototype of this high-performance variant. The next-generation 2 Series Gran Coupe will continue to utilize a front-wheel-drive platform, with certain trim levels offering the option of all-wheel drive, depending on the engine choice.

The new 2 Series Gran Coupe is expected to be among BMW’s last combustion-powered new cars as the automaker steers toward full electrification. Diesel powertrain options may persist in select European markets, and compression ignition technology could potentially make a return for this generation. For the US market, the base model is rumored to come with 18-inch wheels as standard, with 19-inch rims available as an option. Additionally, the sedan may feature the illuminated grille seen on larger and pricier BMW models as part of its optional equipment. Under the hood, the range-topping M235 xDrive is anticipated to pack roughly 300 horsepower, courtesy of the B48 2.0-liter turbocharged gas engine. Production of the next-generation BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is scheduled to commence in November 2024, and enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting more details about this stylish and compact sedan.
